Author and researcher, George Sidiropolis, exclusively reveals a previously hidden and shocking truth in his new book, Murder Never Dies—a detailed chronology and factual account of decades of rampant virgin crime and corruption in a city that became known as "Little Chicago." The research illustrates a life experience of virtuous people who suffered unfairly and were shamefully abandoned. Their profane and immunized guardians engaged in wholesale bribery and unlimited decadence that made the city a bread basket of crime. Wheeling, WV, was forever changed.
Murder Never Dies Crime and Corruption in the Friendly City eBook George Sidiropolis
I grew up in Wheeling and had heard stories about "Little Chicago". Amazing to me that Paul Hankish lived in the same suburb and his car blew up one month before I was born. One neighbor on the street where I grew up, two doors up the street, I'd heard was a "mobster"; but I was a kid and didn't really know what that meant. I remember his Friday night poker parties and several cars parked out back, especially in the summer when they played poker on the patio. But he and his wife were nice neighbors and very kind and generous to us kids growing up there in the 1970s. Imagine my surprise to find my nice old neighbor's name mentioned in this book; and a chapter to himself. Not to mention all the Wheeling names that are so familiar, and those I've actually met or known through my years. An amazing book for anyone who has an interest in Wheeling or has lived in Wheeling. There are many stories of landmarks and people one may remember if they lived in Wheeling. The crime and corruption from Wheeling to Charleston and Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and other states is intriguing and quite interesting, especially for a history buff.
It's kinda made me wonder if crime and corruption is still as prevalent in Wheeling and I just don't know about it; like I never knew about it in the 1970s.

Murder Never Dies Crime and Corruption in the Friendly City eBook George Sidiropolis Reviews
I am from the Wheeling area and work there now. I also know the author and I have met Paul Hankish. This was an amazing book and I knew most of the names and locations. George must have worn himself out researching this book. Great read. Good job George. Best book I've read in a long while.
It was an enjoyable read. Having spent most of my life in the Ohio Valley, it was interesting reading the names and places outlined in the book. The author seemed to have an inside connection throughout his career that allowed him the interviews to develop this story. Hopefully his expose' does not create future issues for him.
I actually love the book I guess because I grew up knowing a lot about the subject. I do have a question for author he mentions Devil Colantino being murdered in my home town. I never heard that tail and no one I know from home can recall a Colantino the tailor. Is the name correct.
This book is about the city near where I grew up. My grandma was young during that time and actually knows, or has heard of, several people mentioned in this book. I can't wait to hear what she thinks!
Good collection of short subjects regarding crime in Wheeling. There's some good information in this book and it's very well written. Does anybody know how I can get in touch with the author??? Thanks!
History of 20th century corruption and (semi) organized crime in my home town of Wheeling, West Virginia. I caught the ‘tail end’ of this story, growing-up there in the 1950s, 60s and early 70s. This book depicts the Wheeling atmosphere of that time period ‘spot-on’. It was definitely a wild and crazy place to come of-age. A ‘night out in Wheeling’ back then, with all it’s crazy characters and all the underground activities could make-for a very, VERY exciting time…one that you’d remember for the rest of your life. I wouldn’t have changed any of it for the world. Great book to capture it all.
This reads more like a timeline of events that shaped Wheeling's history than a collection of juicy crime stories. I can't imagine the amount of time and energy this book took to write. Overall, I really liked reading this book. It was an honest account of events, even when those events placed the author (or his friends) in a bad light. I could picture many of the places in the book in my head while reading. I always heard that the mob ran Wheeling back in the day, but didn't really believe it. At the current age of 35, I missed all of that action.
I hope you write more books about Wheeling.
